San Gabriel, 13 September — the American Chinese Cuisine & Culture Association held its “Flavours of China · Brands Together” plaque ceremony for member restaurants at the Hilton San Gabriel today. Staged jointly with the United Chinese Associations, it drew guests from the restaurant trade, business, the community and cultural circles to witness the ribbon-cutting and the presentation of plaques to the first group of member restaurants.
Founding President Zhang Furong, United Chinese Associations chairman Zhang Yong, executive board chairman Xiong Wensheng, permanent honorary chairman and Shanghailander Palace chairman Lu Qiang, US Chinese Women’s Association president Fang Lei, and association council chairman and Fenglei Group president Wang Mingming all spoke. Liu Wei presented the ceremony.
Zhang Furong said the association was founded to give the restaurant trade in southern California a platform for shared development, shared resources and working together. Its services will follow what member businesses actually need: equipment support, introductions, brand promotion and cultural exchange.
The association plans to provide member restaurants with annual inspection of refrigeration and cold-storage equipment, and to bring together suppliers of ingredients, equipment, logistics and warehousing so members can lower running costs and work more efficiently. On promotion, it will give member restaurants a window on new-media platforms.
It also intends to advance culinary exchange, and is preparing a training facility in City of Industry where specialists and working cooks can share experience and pass on technique.
Council chairman Wang Mingming said he hoped the association would help more of the American mainstream come to know and taste Chinese food, and that food would serve as a bridge between communities.
The ceremony included a video message of congratulation from Huang Geng, founder of Huang Ji Huang and Chinese cuisine adviser to Yum China, who was announced as an adviser to the association.
Plaques were presented to the first group of member restaurants and related businesses, covering restaurant brands, supply chain, catering equipment and professional services — among them The Peninsula, Hongfeng Shangpin, Shanghailander Palace, Szechuan Restaurant, Jingfuju Roast Duck and Yunnan Crossing-the-Bridge Rice Noodles.
The ceremony also recognised individual benefactors and supporting organisations, and set out the association’s coming professional committees and lines of work.
The founding of the association gives Chinese cuisine in southern California a new place to meet. It says it will draw together restaurant businesses, professional bodies and community strength — serving its members, encouraging exchange within the trade, and carrying Chinese culinary culture further in the United States.
